BACKGROUND

Simone Romanow (1975) grew up in former eastern Germany. As a child she wanted to become a tank driver, as a teenager a photographer or porcelain painter. She was 14 years old when the German Wall came down and she decided to go for more. In summer of 2000 she graduated at the Bauhaus - University Weimar as a product designer and went on to Bavaria, working for furniture producer Nils Holger Moormann. In january 2002 she started working at the Atelier van Lieshout in Rotterdam, where she still works parttime as a sculptor and manager of the sculpting workshop.

Besides her contract work Romanow keeps on developing products for the es.ontwerp collection. Her aim is to offer customised and handmade products from various materials, including reused materials. Because of the manual production the products gain a superior quality and there is room for experiments, which makes production an adventure and the product unique.
